Klara Costume Build

Over Summer of 2023, I recreated the costume of Klara from Cirque du Soleil's Kurios. This project included hand painting a leotard, drafting and sewing a corset for the first time, upcycling and customizing thrifted shoes, and engineering a skirt of floating rings that could move like the actual costume.

Finished Product

This was how the finished costume turned out. The leotard was painted by hand, along with the small diamond pattern on the tights. The corset was designed to lace up in the front and zip in the back, and it attaches to the hoops through hooks at the botoom.

Hoop Skirt

The biggest challenge of this costume was the floating hoop skirt. I sized out each ring and cut them out of foam board, then glued multiple together and sanded the edges to make them round. The metal pattern was painted on and a system of strings held them all level with each other and connected them to the corset.

Shoes

I turned thrifted boots into a more comfortable version of the character's shoes (pictures on the top left). I cut them to the right height and put laces in the front and painted bronze details. The extra parts were made of foam and glued on.
